My Self-Summary

I'm not really that extraordinary of a person. Wouldn't it be much more interesting if we talked about you?

But that's not how these things go; it's not fair if I don't share a little about myself, too. I like cats, cooking, and picking up a bunch of little hobbies to keep my hands busy. I love long walks through castles, art galleries, and the streets of Tokyo. I'm actually from the countryside in Japan, so if you ever want to know a thing or two about constellations or plants, I'm your guy. I got to stay in Tokyo for my second year of high school, and it was a very unforgettable time. There are a lot of people I left behind that I already miss, so I'm looking forward to going back as soon as I can.

I love learning about people and forming connections with them. If you ever need an ear, I'm happy to listen.

My Future Plans

It's hard to really say right now, but I think I'll go wherever the wind takes me. Finishing up my last year of high school, and then... Well, who knows what the future will hold?

My Talents

I might have a trick or two up my sleeves.

More seriously, I've picked up a lot of little hobbies over the years, but it's hard to say if I'm really good with one over the other. A little bit of metalwork, flower arranging, fishing... I'm not too bad in a fight, either, but people are usually less happy about that one. The ones that bring a lot more smiles would be cooking up a plate of curry or brewing a good cup of coffee. I lean towards things that are a little more tactile, I suppose, but I probably won't be too useful if you pass me a paintbrush. I guess I'm not bad at crafting, though, as long as it's something smaller that I can piece together.

...Maybe this is just a really long way of saying I'm good with my hands.

Favorite Books, Movies, Music, and Food

I like a little bit of everything, so I'm not a hard date if you're looking for a nice night out on the town. I don't even mind making something for you myself if you'd like a home-cooked meal.

For media, it's probably better to not say "everything", but I really do love having a good variety. It's great for increasing your stats, and it expands your horizons as a person, too. I guess if I had to pick a few things... Jazz, even moreso over the past year after someone very knowledgeable broke it down and helped me to see it with fresh eyes. As for books, have you ever heard of the series of books about Arséne Lupin, written by Maurice Leblanc? There's something in that series that I connected with very closely after I read it. I think it would spoil the surprise, both for the books and for me, if I said what that was. If you like detective fiction, maybe you could try it sometime and we could discuss after?

My Ideal Partner

Who knows?

Maybe it's you. ;3

APPLICATION

OOC

NAME: Yama
AGE: 32
CONTACT: [plurk.com profile] Yamadori
CHARACTER(S): n/a

INVITED BY: Yak | [plurk.com profile] Yakule, invitation here

IC

NAME: Akira Kurusu
AGE: 17; Akira is 16 at the start of the game, but I'd like to have him at this age if possible considering his canon point is after the hc birthday I have for him + chances are very high his birthday already passed since his canon point is at the end of the school year
CANON: Persona 5 Royal
CANON POINT: post-canon
CRAU: n/a
OTHER: n/a

SUITABILITY: At 16/17 years old, Akira falls within the game's age requirements. As a Wildcard chosen to walk the Fool's Journey, like the Persona protagonists that have come before him, it's vital for Akira to form bonds with people if he wants to avoid the coming "ruin". While these relationships may have started as mutually transactional - what Akira could do for them, and how those people could benefit the Phantom Thieves - as time passed, they became genuine bonds that carried trust and affection. I believe that the same can happen within the Resort - sexual encounters that are engaged for the sake of playing the game, but with enough time, Akira will come to forge genuine connections with people. Additionally, one of Akira's greatest weaknesses is that he keeps his true wishes and desires locked up tight. Between the effects of the House and the necessity of becoming closer to people, the Resort presents an excellent opportunity to pry those honest thoughts out of him, for better or for worse.

HISTORY: While little is known of Akira's childhood before the start of the game, there still remains one incident that effected the course of Akira's life before the main events of Persona 5 - an attempt to stop a drunken man from assaulting a woman in the street, which resulted in the arrest and probation that landed him as a ward in Tokyo. Not only did that moment cement in his mind that adults wouldn't believe him when he was in need, but it brought him to the city that (unknown to the public) had become the epicenter of a series of supernatural events.

Akira's life undergoes another radical change when he stumbles into the cognitive world and awakens to the power of Persona; discovering that although it carries some risks, if successful he can change the hearts of people cruelly abusing their positions of power. Together with those who fought alongside him, Akira forms and becomes the leader of the Phantom Thieves in the hopes of wielding their power to reform society. As the Thieves gain more notoriety, they are slowly swept up in a plot setting them up to take the fall for a political organization working in the shadows.

Changing hearts of the powerful, and forming bonds with those that became accomplices to the Phantom Thieves - one was Akira's rebellion, and one was part of his "rehabilitation" put in place by Igor. Little did Akira know that the real Igor's identity had been stolen, and the organization's plot was only part of a bigger web orchestrated by the false god, Yaldabaoth. Months of Akira working to help people, to fight against the injustices that he ran into over and over, had only been a part of a larger manipulation to imprison the general population and leave their free will stolen. While Akira is given an offer to leave the world distorted and the Phantom Thieves remembered and in good standing, in the true ending he chooses to reject the deal and fight against humanity's enslavement. Though the risk is high, the strength of his bonds makes victory possible.

Unbeknownst to Akira, the battle that took place above Tokyo was the catalyst for one of his closest confidants and friends, Maruki Takuto, to awaken to the power of his own Persona. Much of it can be probably be lent to Azathoth's nature as an eldritch outer god, but Maruki was able to begin manifesting his power of Actualization, making people's wishes into a reality. While Akira was one of only three people able to tell that something was terribly wrong, with time he was able to wake up his friends from their happy dreams in the hopes of stopping Maruki from making his ideal reality permanent. On the cusp of changing Maruki's heart, Akira discovered the nature of his own wish, which was to see Akechi Goro alive and well. Once more, he was presented with a choice: to accept the ideal reality and finally want something for himself, or to reject it and honor his bond with Akechi.

In one life, Akira choose that sweet, false dream, and in yet another, the weight of responsibility paralyzed him. In this one, Akira chose what was right - to forsake his own heart, to let go of Akechi's, and to save Maruki's from his pain. Though the true reality was harsh and meant grief for them both, Akira stopped Maruki's distortion and helped him accept his grief. In the true reality, Akira will learn to face his own - but with a heart that's opened itself to bonds, a Fool's Journey fulfilled.

ABILITIES:
PERSONA: Throughout the Persona series, Personas themselves are generally beings that are a person's personality and feelings given form, but each one manifests a little bit differently throughout the games. In 5/Royal, Persona users harness the painful feelings of being taken advantage of, or of others/themselves being wronged, and rebel against it - that form is their "rebellious heart", so to speak. Akira is a unique Persona user because he's a "Wild Card", capable of using multiple Personas (unlike most, who are only capable of using one). I've linked the page of at least Arsène, the Persona that's considered his true one, and whose skills I'll briefly list below:

  • Eiha: Light curse damage to one target.
  • Cleave: Light Physical damage to one target (but injures himself slightly to use).
  • Sukunda: Decrease Agility of to one target for a short time.
  • Dream Needle: Light Gun damage and a medium chance to inflict Sleep on one target (but injures himself slight to use; more damaging than Cleave).
  • Adverse Resolve: Increases Critical rate when surrounded.

  • THIRD EYE: An ability received from Igor, this allows Akira to scan the area around him for things that are out of place. It gives a glow to things that are of notice, such as searchable objects, gaps that can be jumped across, dangerous or interactable areas (pitfalls for the former or vent openings for the latter), or how dangerous an enemy may be. It also seems to have an effect on certain activities, such as slowing down shots in baseball for better timed hits, indicating different breeds of fish with one of the aforementioned glows, or improving accuracy while playing darts.

If it's alright I'd like him to only have Arséne or just a few Personas instead of the 200+ he has access to, but I'm fine with whatever seems appropriate! I'm not quite sure how to handle Third Eye since it's not exactly tied to a Persona, but I'm happy to have it nerfed entirely or regained along with his mask, whichever the mods find most appropriate.

    VICES:
SEES THE FOREST FOR THE TREES. Akira has a tendency to miss what's right in front of him. While he does tend to be a more detail-oriented person when it comes to scheduling and work, the issues that he struggles with the most are those of a more interpersonal nature (notable examples of these would be missing how Morgana is bothered right before the Hawaii trip, or looking the other way from any doubts he might've had about Igor). It seems contradictory when he's also a person that spends a lot of time listening to others and being very observant of them, but enough details can distract him from something that's about to become a big problem.

GREY MORALITY. Akira, for the most part, tries to be a good person, but how good he strives to be doesn't change the fact that he would have easily accepted it if Kamoshida died during his change of heart. Though the Phantom Thieves have had a "no killing" policy since their first successful Change of Heart, Akira himself is probably the closest to morally gray amongst his friends. Even his own Persona Arsène, essentially a reflection of Akira's heart, calls it as such during his Awakening: "Thou who art willing to perform all sacrilegious acts for thine own justice!" His justice can be, and often is, a positive trait - but the way he wields it isn't always as pure as it could be.

WITHDRAWN. Though more open at his current canon point, Akira can still be quite reticent, especially when it comes to things relating to himself. It seems a little paradoxical when he's become something of a social butterfly, but he mostly expresses that in listening; when it comes to speaking, about himself or otherwise, he's still a very quiet and reserved person. It's a little easier to get around if you befriend him and earn his trust, but that trust is something very hard-won. Even with friends, it can take a long time before he starts to share little bits and pieces, and longer still before he lets down some of his walls and masks.

    VIRTUES:
JUSTICE. While it has its times that he wields it in a less righteous way (as seen with the "grey morality" above), oftentimes Akira's justice can be a good thing. He sticks firmly to his own moral code, but it's one that hates those with power taking advantage of the vulnerable. Someone else being put into a position similar to Akira's was even the catalyst for him becoming a Phantom Thief, making it a goal to take down anyone using their money or position to take advantage of others.

GOOD WORKS. Sometimes he can be a little too selfless about it, but a big portion of Akira's probation is spent on doing things for others. Favors here and there, helping out at one of his many part-time jobs, or just being the sounding board that others need - nothing is too big or too small if he can be of use to someone. Sometimes it strays into people pleasing tendencies, but Akira genuinely thrives on doing what he can to help others.

CHARISMATIC. It's a quiet sort of charisma, but Akira has a magnetic sort of pull to him that attracts the rest of the Phantom Thieves one at a time, willing to plunge into danger not only for their joint cause, but for him as a leader as well. Sometimes they may disagree, but they respect him enough to listen when he weighs in on a discussion, and follow his orders in combat without batting an eye. Warm, encouraging, diffusing - these are some of the ways that Akira leads, both gentle and firm at once.

    SUIT REQUESTS:
HEARTS. My first choice for Akira is Hearts. While so much of the story makes Hearts appropriate thematically, I think it's the most fun and challenging option for him since he does so much to keep his own emotions private and locked up. Where Akira rarely speaks his true thoughts, this suit offers plenty of opportunities to break down the walls over his heart. Where sex would normally be a transactional thing for him, this also provides more chances for him to form genuine bonds that he might be more reticent to do when intimacy is involved. If Akira suspects that he's catching genuine feeling for someone, it will be far more likely for him to avoid sexual encounters for a period, so suit flares are also more likely with this choice. One of the most fun things for me to write as a player is a character's emotions - their catharsis, their turmoil, their development, and their growth - so Hearts would be a blast for me! I want to crack his psyche open like an egg, and I think this is an ideal way to do it.

DIAMONDS. As a follow up choice, I think Diamonds could also be very interesting for Akira. As mentioned within the Hearts request, sex would ordinarily be a transactional engagement for him - so what would happen if his body demands more beyond that? Depending on the circumstances and cr, he could end up avoiding it like he would for the more emotional Hearts... or maybe he'd come to find it even more enjoyable and lean into his suit even more. There's also the angle that Akira doesn't usually initiate touch with people unless he's very close with them, so this could lead him to more physical encounters (even non-sexual ones) than he might have otherwise.
RANK REQUESTS: If possible, I'd love 3 or another low rank!

    ABOUT
CANON POINT: labyrinthum: persona 5 strikers, post-canon
memes/PSLs: i'm happy to play from any point, though i'll usually default to later fall or winter canon points in persona 5 royal. however, i'd love to play around with more stuff from strikers and tactica and one day persona 5 dancing and q2, please port them atlus! persona 5 x is on a case by case basis unless we thread regularly (though i am steadily incorporating lines that are relevant to Akira where applicable). i'm less interested in vanilla canon points unless it's going to dovetail into strikers, but if you have ideas for stuff feel free to pitch it at me anyway!
VISUAL: gallery page on the wiki, mind the spoilers
BUILD: as i do with several things when it comes to Akira, i follow what Saito Rokuro does, so Akira has a slightly muscular build but not overly so. you can see an example of this here
HAIR: black, fluffy and a little unruly
EYES: gray; looks almost black in some lighting
FEATURES: fake glasses. smells like coffee. moves like a cat. dexterous with his hands, moves with a swift grace. studious and quiet, but also bold and daring - is one of these a façade, or are both simply pieces that make up the whole picture of who he is?
    ATTIRE: simple but modestly stylish.
WEAPONS: dagger, pistol. his actual weapons within the game only have an effect in cognitive areas and are simply model toys outside of it, so whether they can be used will depend on the setting i'm playing him in.
VOICE: he's voiced by Fukuyama Jun, who's notable for many roles, but if you'd like to hear him as specifically Akira then you can listen here and (if you'd rather have him talking and not just shouting battle lines/Persona names) his persona 5 dancing trailer is here (also briefly featuring Ryuji/Miyano Mamoru)

ORIGINS: not much is known about Akira's hometown, though it's noted repeatedly that he's from the quiet countryside, or at least a place that's not nearly as built up as tokyo. through some fan research, it's been noted that the name of his hometown is hitachi, and is somewhere west of tokyo (possibly aichi or shizuoka).
FAMILY: this is also, for the most part, unknown. what is known is that his parents are friends with a regular who frequents leblanc, and thus are the reason Akira ends up living there during his probation. throughout the duration of his stay in tokyo, his parents have no noted presence or indication that they've tried to contact Akira.
RELATIONSHIPS: maxed platonic ranks with all confidants unless he's taken from early canon or otherwise noted!
-except for in labyrinthum where he doesn't even know Maruki or Yoshizawa (rip)
OCCUPATION: student, barista, cashier, florist, server, medical guinea pig
HISTORY: you can see it here! (mind the p5 spoilers)

    HEADCANON BIRTHDAY: november 16th, 1999
HEADCANON ZODIAC: scorpio sun / aquarius moon / virgo ascendant
    SEXUAL ORIENTATION: bisexual

    ABILITIES
OBSERVATION SKILLS: Akira is incredibly good at reading people, from their physical tells to their speech patterns. he's not perfect by any means, and he can absolutely be fooled, but for the most part he's very good at observing what people do and understanding their habits... all for the sake of being what they need him to be. oocly i am old and that's not always the easiest thing to keep track of LOL, so in games if there are particular things that you'd like for him to pick up on, feel free to use my observations opt-in over here.
COOKING: Akira takes to recipes like a duck to water; he loves to cook and he's very good at it, though his specialty has become coffee and curry since living at leblanc. in strikers it's even more pronounced that he'll just grab a recipe or eyeball a dish and try to make his best approximation of it, always with successful results. you can see some of those recipes over here
CRAFTING, FISHING, AND VARIOUS OTHER KINESTHETIC ACTIVITIES:
as stated previously, Akira is great with his hands, and he's got a great knack for quickly picking up any activity he puts his mind to. whether it's making a lockpick out of some yarn and tin or being a fast study at playing pool, Akira is a jack-of-all-trades when it comes to his little collection of skills and talents. as noted, some of these skills include making infiltration tools, fishing, darts, pool, flower arrangement and baseball.

SO WHAT ABOUT THOSE SUPERNATURAL ABILITIES, YAMA: glad you asked! Akira may be a live-in barista/student/insert thing here by day, but by afterschool hours night he lives as a Phantom Thief. However, this in itself is not a supernatural talent. as someone granted the ability to visit the Metaverse (a cognitive world layered over the physical one), he's also been fortunate enough to awaken the power of a Persona - but for those who awaken to it, what they choose to do with their power is ultimately up to them. Akira decided to use it to take justice into his own hands, Changing the Hearts of people whose desires have become distorted.
PERSONAAA: the description of a persona and how they're summoned vary a little throughout the persona games, but they are manifestations of a person's inner soul and feelings. in persona 5, this is specifically the manifestation of their wills of rebellion. what that means in practice is that Akira is able to summon a demon-adjacent being that's formed from his own soul and inability to turn his back on people. they require a catalyst to be summoned (in the p5 series, these are the masks that appear with their cognitive outfits), and are capable of using elemental and physical magic spells. akira's specialty is in Curse magic, but... he also happens to be a little different from most other persona users.
INITIAL PERSONA, FIRST AWAKENING: Arséne (summoned in all p5 games)
INITIAL PERSONA, SEOND AWAKENING: Satanael (only summoned in persona 5, persona 5 royal, and persona q2)
INITIAL PERSONA, THIRD AWAKENING: Raoul (only summoned in persona 5 royal)
THE INFINITE POTENTIAL OF THE WILD CARD: because Akira was Chosen™ by Igor, not only does he have his initial persona, but is also capable of negotiating with regular old Shadows (demons) and have them join him if the negotiations are successful. being a wild card isn't just about having a huge roster of personas to choose from, however; at the heart of it, a wild card is meant to nurture their bonds, and only through that can Akira truly become strong.
CAN WE GO BACK TO THAT STEALING HEARTS BIT: yes! so the simple-but-still-kinda-long version (and void of some spoilers) is that when a person's heart distorts, it will manifest in one of two ways. the first and less severe version is forming a Shadow in Mementos, the representation of the collective unconscious in the cognitive world; this shadow can be defeated and have their treasure stolen (more on that in a sec), and the person will repent after. usually a pretty painless process. the second occurrence is that if a person is too far gone, the distorted desires will form a Palace, a domain separate from mementos but still within the metaverse, projected over a real world location. (as an example, the first palace in p5 appears as a castle, though the true location it's layered over in the real world is shujin academy.)
a palace owner's Treasure is an object that serves as a physical representation of the negative emotions rooted in their heart; when this treasure is threatened, which the Phantom Thieves do by sending a calling card, it will manifest and can be stolen. this will usually result in a difficult battle with the palace owner's cognitive self, and may result in their death if done incorrectly. when successful, the treasure may be taken. afterwards, the palace will crumble and its owner undergoes a Change of Heart, resulting in them repenting for their past actions in some fashion.
though it's described a certain way in-game, there seems to be a misconception about palace rulers themselves. though many of them have ill intent, not all distorted desires are formed from the desire to abuse what power they may have; they can also form from other things such as stress, negative emotions, and psychological trauma.
THIRD EYE: another gift from Igor; a subtle one, but something that Akira can use outside of the metaverse. this ability allows Akira to scan the area around him for things that are out of place. it gives a glow to things that are of notice, such as searchable objects, gaps that can be jumped across, dangerous or interactable areas (pitfalls for the former or vent openings for the latter), or how dangerous an enemy may be. it also seems to have an effect on certain activities, such as slowing down shots in baseball for better timed hits, indicating different breeds of fish with one of the aforementioned glows, or improving accuracy while playing darts.

    PERMISSIONS
BACKTAGGING: yes, always! i'm a slower rper so i'm always down to backtag. in games i run on a stricter schedule, so i'll usually want to wind things down after a month's time so i can take on new things!
THREADHOPPING: hit me up first if it's an action thread, but for texting threads feel for to go for it!
FOURTHWALLING: for both Akira's sake and my own, i'd prefer to keep this extremely limited! possibly okay under certain circumstances (e.g. homestuck or other canons where that's a natural thing would be fine), but either way talk it out with me beforehand.
ROMANCE: in memes and psls, always; i love shippy stuff! for games it's going to be a slow burn, both because that's my own preference and also because that's just the way Akira is unless he trusts the other person a lot.
MINDREADING: hit me up first so we can talk it out, but most likely i'll be down!
MANIPULATION: absolutely. nothing would bring me greater joy than to have him trust someone and then crush him with the truth if it ever comes to light.
FIGHTING: please!!!!! Akira loves a good fight and so do i, mess him up
INJURY: points up at above. as long as he doesn't lose any limbs, mess him up.
KILLING: give me a heads-up first! most likely i'll be down tbh, i'd just like to know ahead of time (and also give any appropriate notices if it's a game with castmates or close cr).

if i've left anything out, please feel free to contact for more information and plotting!
    PREFERENCES
OOC CONTACT: one of the most important things, especially for meme and psl threads - if we haven't played together, i prefer to exchange handles first before threading! sending me a private plurk (preferable) or pm is fine. if we haven't threaded before, or i don't know you oocly otherwise, i may choose to not continue a thread, sorry!
OOC DO NOT WANT: do not play with me if you use generative AI. otherwise, my main ooc no's: extreme body horror, incest, drugs (although past reference to it is fine). at this time, i am not interested in playing with au versions of characters (aus that we mutually discuss and agree on for memes or psls are perfectly fine).
MEMES: down for most stuff! i'd rather not do noncon unless it's mutual, and i have some difficulty writing pure fluff unless there's something else going on; discuss with me in both cases. guro i would like to avoid entirely. otherwise, i don't really have much in the way of memes i don't like.
PSLS: one day i'll finally make the psl wishlist i keep saying i'll make. until then, feel free to throw ideas at me. a list of some things i generally like would be: fake dating/relationship, roommates, arranged marriage, soulmates, kiznaiver au or another kind of pain/memory/thought/dream sharing (or pleasure as an option for smut), a/b/o, twewy au, hunger games au, canon divergence, childhood friends, time loops, mutual pining, red string of fate, fae aus, and urban fantasy. soft, sweet, tragic, complicated, as messed up and gritty as my fragile lil stomach can take, or all of the above - i love almost every flavor you can think of.
AUS: i love them, especially the canon AUs i listed above like hunger games and kiznaiver. i think for Akira in particular, the only type i'd rather not do is fantasy AUs unless a pitch really snags my attention, but otherwise i'm down for anything. i'm also happy to work together to au your character into p5 if that's something you'd be interested in; the abilities section has a quick rundown, but i can definitely expand on it more if needed.
IC DO NOT WANT: if the other character is an adult and/or a police officer, an Akira at canon age is automatically going to have some mistrust and misgivings about them. he can absolutely grow to trust them and become close with them - Sojiro, Maruki and Zenkichi are all good examples of this - but unless it happens in a particularly serendipitous manner, it will take some work to get Akira to let his guard down and open up around them. for memes and psls, i'm willing to bend this a bit and just jump straight to assumed cr/good relations/etc if that's preferred (i love playing out that slow burn of building trust, but I recognize that might not be everyone's cup of tea). for a post-november 20 Akira, he will also have aversions to drugs, needles, and being restrained.
CONTENT WARNINGS: persona 5 and its remake/sequel games all contain direct mentions or references to several heavy topics; this list is not all inclusive, but some of the major ones are manipulation, neglect, child abuse, physical assault, sexual assault, brainwashing, murder, and suicide. these are things that directly effect people that Akira deeply cares for, but what he himself has experienced in late canon is severe physical assault by police and having drugs forced into him. none of these things are topics that Akira would readily bring up in conversation unless questioned about it directly by someone he's formed a deep bond with, but if there's anything that you'd like to opt out of, you're welcome to use my hmd or shoot me a pm.
NEGATIVE CR: on an ooc level, i love negative CR. i'm so hungry for negative cr. however - unfortunately for me - icly it's a lot more difficult to get negative cr with Akira because there isn't a lot that bothers him or throws him off unless your chara is a powertripping politician or something... even murder or betraying him aren't dealbreakers when it comes to friendship (though the latter will wound him deeply). it is possible though and has happened before! if you'd like to pursue this with him, let me know and we can try to plot something out.
SHIPPING: i love shipping! for the sake of a shippy meme I'll always be happy to jump right into the relationships, but my personal favorite is to slow burn a ship. in the past i've said no to age gap shipping with Akira and my other p5 characters specifically, but tentatively i am lifting this with the following caveats: that we've had time to get to know each other oocly, and it seems like we want similar things out of the ship. with other media i don't have an upper limit in regards to how big the gap in age is, so i'm down for whatever so long as we vibe!
MAIN PAIRINGS: you can view my castmate prefs here, but the quick version is Akechi, Yoshizawa, Haru and then the rest of the Phantom Thieves a pretty equal amount. if anybody else likes jokercest please call me
TAG STYLE: brackets preferred! usually my tags will be on the medium to longer end (sorry!! i like introspection a lot!!!), but please don't feel like you have to match my length or general style.
TAG SPEED: definitely on the slower end, unless it's tfln or we mutually decide to boomerang.
    LABYRINTHUM
POTION: Akira arrived with the Golden Potion. As of July 2025, he has yet to drink it, but whenever he does it will turn him into a fluffy black house cat with white socks.
WEAPON: Akira currently possesses three daggers - a pair that was given to him by Eren, crafted by Kanoa, and a singular one gifted to him by Akechi for his birthday. All three of these are hidden on his person at all times, unless he's in the bath or dressed down for sleep.
TRANSPORTATION: Bicycle gifted to him by Maruki on his birthday. If he isn't getting around with this, he's usually walking by foot.
INVENTORY: As of July 2025, his inventory is as follows:
    - glasses
    - Phantom Thief outfit, regained via crystal wish
    - satchel that he arrived with, usually used to carry any assortment of items from the following inventory
    - crystal pendant
    - his gold potion
    - communication device he arrived with
    - blank parchment, usually kept in his room within the machiya
    - two smartphones; one was a gift for his birthday, one is his own from home that was regained via crystal wish
    - fancy coffees, also gifted; he's depleted through a little of it since November, but rations it out for the most part
    - two journals; one from Maruki (leather, pocket) and one from Akechi (small and red)
    - a pen from Akechi
    - a Gucci(?) glasses case, gifted by Hakuno
    - cat mug, Christmas gift from Maruki, always tucked away in the kitchen
    - mini cactus, always kept safe in his room
    - Phantom Wafers (current count: 2)

    Canon: Persona 5 Strikers
Canon Point: Post-canon; it's left vague whether Strikers is a sequel of only Persona 5 or is also a sequel of Persona 5 Royal as well, but for this canon point I'll be playing him as if it's the former

    CRAU Explanation: n/a
Character Appearance: Persona 5 Strikers concept art and Phantom Thief concept art
    Powers and Abilities:

Persona: Throughout the Persona series (that for the most part isn't connected outside of being years apart in mostly the same universe), Personas themselves are generally beings that are a person's personality and feelings given form, but each one manifests a little bit differently throughout the games. In Persona 5/Royal, Personas users harness the painful feelings of being taken advantage of, or of others or themselves being wronged, and rebel against it - that form is their "rebellious heart", so to speak. Akira is a unique Persona user because he's a "Wild Card", capable of using multiple Personas (unlike most, who are only capable of using one). However this ability is usually only capable of being used in the Metaverse, the cognitive world that is projected onto the real world and can be visited through the use of a special app that Akira and the rest of his group have on their cell phones. If he does regain his powers, I'd prefer for him to only have Arsène, whose page I've linked and whose skills I'll briefly list below:
  • Eiha: Light Curse damage to an area of foes.
  • Cleave: Light Physical damage to a narrow range with medium chance of Critical. (injures himself slightly to use)
  • Tarunda: Temporarily decrease attack for an area of foes.
  • Dream Needle: Light Physical damage to a narrow range. Medium chance of Sleep. (injures himself slightly to use)
  • Rebel Soul: Improves rate for increasing Showtime Gauge.
  • Maeiga: Medium Curse damage to a wide area of foes.
  • One-shot Kill: Severe Gun damage to an area of foes with very high chance of Critical. (injures himself considerably to use)
  • Maeigaon: Heavy Curse damage to a wide area of foes.
  • Survival Trick: Survive one insta-death attack with 1 HP remaining.
  • Riot Gun: Severe Gun damage to a wide area of foes with very high chance of Critical. (injures himself considerably to use)

What Did Your Character Wish For? To see the person he failed one more time.
What Potion Did They Receive? Golden Potion
    Did They Drink It? No
    If Yes, What Element/Animal? n/a

    Character Questions:
    1. Who is the person your character is most bonded with from their canon? Or who is someone they miss the most? Akira would probably be most bonded to Morgana, the second of the then-future Phantom Thieves that Akira ever met, and the one that would (almost) always be at his side from that time onwards. Morgana has served as a mentor to him and the rest of the Phantom Thieves since the time Akira met him; he's not only the one that teaches Akira about the Metaverse, but also the one responsible for directing that energy of "wanting to make a difference" into the formation of the Phantom Thieves themselves. From that point on, Morgana also serves as a stabilizing presence in Akira's life; telling him to rest instead of continuing to charge forward, or gently nudging him in a direction when it seems like he needs it. The time that Akira's without Morgana at his side is the most lost he is in the course of Striker's prequel game, and it doesn't go away until they're reunited. To Akira, Morgana is irreplaceable in so many ways, but perhaps the most critical is in the way that he's a guiding light.

    2. What are they most afraid of? Though it's a quote from Tactica and not Strikers itself, Akira states that what he's most afraid of is running away from a fight, even more than the actual fight itself. He can handle being in danger, and he can handle being hurt, but the one thing he can't stand is failing people that are depending on him. It can even be seen early on in Persona 5 itself; the easiest option for many people would be to not get involved in someone else's altercation, but for Akira, looking away from someone in trouble is next to impossible.

    3. What is their weakness? Emotionally, mentally and physically? Emotionally, Akira has the most difficulty with being vulnerable around other people. It's easy for him to put on a mask and be what people need him to be, but it's far harder for him to share his true thoughts and feelings with others. Even with the people he's been able to trust and grow close to, he'll be much more likely to show a brave face than to actually admit to anything that may be bothering him.

His mental weakness would probably be that while he's very observant about people and their habits, Akira has a tendency to miss what's right in front of him. He does tend to be a more detail-oriented person when it comes to scheduling and work, but issues he struggles with the most are those of a more interpersonal nature (notable examples of these would be missing how Morgana is bothered right before the Hawaii trip, or looking the other way from any doubts he might've had about Igor). It seems contradictory when he's also a person that spends a lot of time listening to others and being very observant of them, but enough details can distract him from something that's about to become a big problem.

As for his physical weakness, this would probably be his stamina. This has improved very much since becoming a Phantom Thief and training his body more, but it's still the easiest way to wear him down in a fight. No matter how many dazzling jumps or theatric twirls he's capable of, Akira is still only human, and those reserves of energy will only last him for so long.

    4. What would make them happiest? To live in Tokyo with all of the people that have become important to him - not just the Phantom Thieves, though they're easily who cares about most, but all of the people that he's forged bonds with. To stay at Leblanc with Sojiro in particular is a deeply set wish in his heart, though he still returns home when the time comes (whether it's out of obligation or a lingering affection for his home is never made clear).

    5. What do you want out of your character in this setting? I'd like to not set anything in stone too much, especially with a setting like this that has so much to explore, but I do have two things in mind that I'd like to aim for going into this. For the first, I want to throw Akira into a situation where he has to survive without his powers for some time until I have him regain them, right after a period that he's become very dependent on them (for a second time) in canon. And for the second, I'd like for him to confront what his wish means - that grief hasn't held his life at a standstill, and that he's even enjoyed himself in spite of it... but that it still very much lingers within his heart.

    PLAYER INFORMATION
    Name: Yama
    Preferred pronoun(s): she/her
    Contact: [plurk.com profile] Yamadori

    CHARACTER INFORMATION
    Name: Akira Kurusu
    Canon: Persona 5 Royal
Canon point: Post-canon; the train ride returning to his hometown
    Age: 17

    Personality:

The following section will contain full spoilers for Persona 5 Royal.

» What traits do your character admire in a person?
To Akira, one of the things most important to him in a person is their integrity. He values people that say the things that they mean, and do what they say they will. That said, while he does appreciate honesty, it's less important to him than the notion of a person sticking by their own principles. Though they may have individual times that they waver, it's something that he admires amongst his fellow Phantom Thieves. It's also something he respects in people like Akechi or Sae, even if both of them have moments of taking it to an extreme degree - they're both people who strive to carry out their own personal justice, regardless of what's said by their peers or the roadblocks life places in front of them.

Another thing that means a lot to him is kindness. To those who show it to him in a way that's genuine and not superficial, Akira will slowly open up and let down a few of his masks. It can throw him for a loop to the point of making him nervous or even a little embarrassed, such as the jubilant affection he receives from Yoshizawa or the more subtle praise that sneaks up on him from Sojiro, but he treasures all of it the same. In his initial interactions with others, his mind is analytic enough to first jump to what they can do for him or what he can do for them, but he still regards someone being kind as a very precious and important thing.
» What do they dislike most about themself?

It's hard to really place this, as Akira doesn't really show any direct indications of disliking things about himself - if anything, he sometimes displays the complete opposite, seeming fairly content in who he is as a person. However, a case can probably be made for one thing in particular - one thing he cannot stand is when he lets someone down, wondering about it in circles what he could've done better. Not having enough power to prevent something from going wrong, or not being there to support someone when they needed it... To Akira, one of his greatest drives is to be what people need, so it can probably be said that what he dislikes in himself is when he isn't enough.
» What discrepancies are there between their inner self (who they feel they are) and their outer self (how they present themselves to others)?
Akira presents as a boy that's quiet and polite, demurely keeping his head down and deferring to higher authority. Whether or not he was this way during childhood, it's been the face he's shown to the world since his probation began. Even the choice to wear his fake glasses is one made to appear more unassuming to people. Some of these down-to-earth facets are even a part of his inner self, too.

But those masks are in place to keep so much more under lock and key. Inside, Akira is someone full of daring, that feels rage at the injustices against the downtrodden, and has a mind that's very careful and calculating. When he's alone amongst the Phantom Thieves, and especially when he gets to walk through the Metaverse as Joker, all of those things get to come out to play - whether that's living life on the edge, fighting against those that abuse their power, or putting his mind to coming up with an efficient strategy. There are few places where he can be quite so bold, so he must choose them wisely.
» Who are two influential people in their life (can be positive or negative)?
Maruki Takuto: While Sojiro is the gateway to trusting other adults, Maruki is the one amongst them that treats Akira as an equal. Rather quickly, he becomes a person that Akira trusts very much and speaks with more candidly than he does with even the Phantom Thieves. In Maruki is a kindred spirit, one of the first people in Tokyo that ever tries to earnestly understand him, and with him he shares more of his heart than most people ever get to hear. Perhaps this is part of why he's one of the only people in the world that can cause Akira to bend his morals for the sake of everyone's happiness. It's also, of course, for keeping two of the people he cares about most alive and well (alive in Akechi's case, and well in Sumire's) - but that also requires Akira putting his full trust in Maruki to do what he says he will. No one else is able to cause such an about-face in him, and it speaks to how deep their bond goes.

Akechi Goro: To Akira, he's many things - a rival, an opponent, his match in almost every way, and sometimes almost a friend. Akechi is what Akira could've been, if only the pieces of his life shifted just a little bit to the left... and for that reason, no matter what pretenses or falsehoods they use with each other, they both understand each other better than anyone else. The impact he has on Akira's life is threefold; the first is Akechi is a challenge, a duel promised in the depths of the collective unconscious of Tokyo, someone that pushes him to the heights and extremes that he's hungry for. The second impact is to reinforce Akira's own justice. The same man, Masayoshi Shido, ruined both of their lives, driving them to seek their own separate but sometimes misguided forms of justice... What Shido cost Akechi was the greatest thing of all, though - his mother - and when Akira changes Shido's heart, it's for the sake of carrying out Akechi's will as well. The third and last influence Akechi leaves is both the simplest and most complex - his bond with him is so great that Akira's willing to consider the warping of reality and his own morals just to spare his life. Their relationship has many layers to it, but Akechi is someone Akira is willing to give up the entire world for.
» What do they get excited about?
Akira can get excited about any assortment of things, from the mundane to the quirky. From seeing the neighborhood cats to getting high scores in a video game; from trying weird novelty flavors to seeing if he can catch the biggest fish at the pond at absurd hours of the day. There's an entire variety of life and color and culture in Tokyo, and Akira finds plenty of things to be excited about in the bustle of it all.

What's less expected of a good honor student that's supposedly on his best behavior, however, is the thrill of a good battle. Akira loves to be challenged; in the Metaverse is where he thrives, pitted against foes many times his size and putting his life in peril should he make even one misstep. Even with the rest of his team who also constantly throw themselves into the fray for the greater good, they're regularly astonished by the complicated physical maneuvers he pulls off or the situations he puts himself in without any thought to his own safety. In the Other World that allows him to don one mask while shirking off several others, Akira is allowed to indulge in what's the biggest rush for him.
» What is something they are very bad at?
Akira has a tendency to miss what's right in front of him. While he does tend to be a more detail-oriented person when it comes to scheduling and work, the issues that he struggles with the most are those of a more interpersonal nature (notable examples of these would be missing how Morgana is bothered right before the Hawaii trip, or looking the other way from any doubts he might've had about Igor). It seems contradictory when he's also a person that spends a lot of time listening to others and being very observant of them, but enough details can distract him from something that's about to become a big problem.
» What is one thing they would tell their younger self if they had the chance?
Most likely, it would be something along the lines of: "Your family isn't determined by your blood. Hang on a little longer til you can meet more of them."

Little is known about Akira's family or upbringing, nor any friends that he may have left behind in the countryside - and it's a blank that probably shouldn't be wholly filled in case new material changes that one day. That said, there's some minor inferences to be made, and that's in the lack of any of their significant presences during the actual storyline of Persona 5 Royal. One of the only instances that Akira's parents are mentioned is to note that "they're acquainted with one of Sojiro's customers", since that's how Akira ends up in Tokyo in the first place. But there's never any known attempts for them or any other acquaintances to contact Akira.

It's a stark contrast to the relationship that we do see that forms between him and Sojiro, which starts out very brusque on the latter's part before blossoming into a real guardianship. What we know are the people he meets in Tokyo, whether they're the Phantom Thieves or the adults that he learns to have some trust for, that end up holding a place in his heart so dear that he'd do anything for them. Perhaps the clearest illustration, though, is during the third semester's bad ending - when offered the opportunity, it's shown that one of Akira's greatest desires is to not return home and keep living with Sojiro at Leblanc.

It's not quite revealed if Akira has any resentment or lingering negative feelings towards the home that let him down, but what is very clear is the family that he found during his stay at Tokyo. If given the chance, what he'd want to pass onto his younger self is the encouragement to hang on, even through the arrest that turned his life upside down, because he'll get something irreplaceable at the end of it all.
» How do they want to be remembered?
"Tonight I hope, as small as I am, that maybe someday I can be that light for someone else."

Akira doesn't have the hugest hopes for being remembered, nor does he really mind if he's forgotten. What matters much more to him is the effect that he has on people's lives. The name "Akira Kurusu" or "Leader of The Phantom Thieves" or even "Joker" don't need to linger in the lives of others, so long as he can make a difference for them. Whether that's in offering a comforting smile to those whose hearts are hurt, or listening to the troubles of whoever has no one to hear them, or bringing justice to people who lord their power over the weak. He doesn't care one way or another if he's remembered as "himself", so long as he can just be thought of as a light that left people's lives even a little bit brighter.
    Powers/abilities:
Third Eye: An ability received from Igor, this allows Akira to scan the area around him for things that are out of place.

  • Eiha: Light curse damage to one target.
  • Cleave: Light Physical damage to one target (but injures himself slightly to use).
  • Sukunda: Decrease Agility of to one target for a short time.
  • Dream Needle: Light Gun damage and a medium chance to inflict Sleep on one target (but injures himself slight to use; more damaging than Cleave).
  • Adverse Resolve: Increases Critical rate when surrounded.
  • Inventory:
Silver Dagger: A silver blade resplendent in its ornamentation.
Tkachev: Model gun typically seen in mafia films.
Cellphone: A cellular phone with a silver, diamond-patterned case.
Lockpick: A tool that can open one locked treasure chest.
Akechi's Glove: A challenge that was accepted.
Sentimental item: Akechi's toy raygun from his childhood. For Akira, Akechi is his rival, but he's also his friend. In spite of being betrayed by him and blackmailed, Akira still values him as a person and the time spent with him. The raygun marks a significant time, which is one of the few where Akechi shared something about his past - honesty, versus the Detective Prince mask that he wears from day to day.

Gemstone: Black and red, maybe a little like this black opal without the other colors that show up in light? aside from whatever damage it has, smooth and small enough to fit in the center of his palm

Lost memory #1: Somewhere between the end of November to early December, the Phantom Thieves infiltrate Shido's Palace in the hopes of putting a stop to his crimes. As they come close to the treasure, they're intercepted by Akechi, who means to kill them before they can ruin his plans and battles them until he's gravely wounded. During this time, Shido's cognitive version of Akechi appears to stop them. In the moment it seems like the real Akechi is deciding whether or not to shoot the Thieves, he shoots the bulkhead door button instead and traps himself with the cognitive version of himself. After the door is shut, two shots go off. Akechi's status is unknown, though the chance of him being dead is extremely high.

What Akira will lose is the concept of Akechi's death and all the things that entails. He will lose the weight of responsibility that he bore when fighting Shido and upholding Akechi's justice in addition to his own, and he will also lose the guilt and regret he felt over not being able to save Akechi. During the times that Akechi appears in his memory during Maruki's actualization, he won't be associated in Akira's thoughts with any shock at his appearance or feelings of loss. The glove he constantly keeps in his pocket will no longer be a painful reminder, but simply a promise they haven't had a chance to fulfill yet. And when Maruki comes on February 2nd, Akechi's life won't be used as a bargaining chip to sway Akira to accept his idealized reality (more regarding this in the altered memory).

Ultimately, the changes that it leaves in Akira will leave him just a little more settled, and with far less wounds on his heart. For now, at least.

Lost memory #2: During the infiltration of Maruki's Palace in January, since the the rest of the Phantom Thieves are living happily in the world Maruki has made for them, only Akira, Akechi and Kasumi are able to embark on this venture. Things go well until Kasumi is taken, and the truth is revealed to Akira and Akechi shortly thereafter - "Kasumi" is actually Sumire Yoshizawa, brainwashed by Maruki into believing she's her older sister so she wouldn't have to live with the guilt and pain of being "herself".

For the second lost memory, Akira will lose the concept of Sumire Yoshizawa. He will forget every instance of her not being referred to as Kasumi; I'll leave it up to mod discretion if those memories are just strangely fuzzy and will be confusing to think about, or if he just loses blocks of time entirely.

The changes to Akira's personality are almost the same as the first lost memory: more settled, and with a less wounded heart. There's an additional detail here that will elaborated on after the description of the altered memory.

Altered memory: On the night of February 2nd, Maruki goes to Leblanc one last time to see if a conflict can be avoided. During this conversation, Maruki speaks about Akira and Akechi's relationship and the ways they were important to each other... and directly points out that he "created a reality where [the two of them] could have a fresh start together," suggesting that he's the one who's brought Akechi back from the dead.

In the altered memory, Akechi is at Leblanc from the start when Maruki arrives instead of hiding outside. Any references to Akechi's death or the engine room are removed, and Maruki instead tries to emphasize the found family and friends he would leave behind in Tokyo should he have to return home, as well as the uncertain future that awaits him and Akechi in the real reality as minors with criminal records. Akira tries to convince him he'll be fine and they'll be coming to save Maruki instead before giving him the Calling Card.

In terms of Akira's personality, this has much the same effect as the memories he's lost. More at peace, less hurt; it could be said that like this, he's perhaps even more well-adjusted than he already was.

But between the lost memories and this altered one, they will all also have a direct impact on how he views Maruki. To Akira, what Maruki did - brainwashing Sumire into someone she's not and using Akechi's life as a way to convince him to accept the idealized reality - was equivalent to the thing that causes him the most pain, a betrayal. With that layer to their relationship removed, Akira will be more at peace, but he will also trust Maruki much more easily. In his mind now, he never hurt him - he was only someone Akira cared about very much, but needed to save from himself.

    OTHER CHARACTERS: n/a

    CHARACTER NAME: Akira Kurusu
    CANON: Persona 5 Royal
    CANON POINT: post-canon
AGE: 16-17 (Akira doesn't have a canon birthday, but since the game ends at the end of the high school year, I'd like to say that he's 17 if that's okay!)
    HISTORY: here!

    VICES & VIRTUES:
Patience: One of Akira's strongest qualities is his ability to watch and wait to see what happens. His teammates and friends remark on his ability to "keep a cool head" multiple times throughout the game, even when the pressure is on and the rest of the world has mistakenly been led to believe that the Phantom Thieves are killers. When Akira is first introduced, his patience is presented in a more self-damaging way, because it leads him to be quietly accepting of his probation and bottling up all the painful feelings he has surrounding it. But after spending more time as Joker, he's honed it into something that can be wielded to weather through the difficult situations he must often face.

Charity: Sometimes he can be a little too selfless about it, but a big portion of Akira's probation is spent on doing things for others. Favors here and there, helping out at one of his many part-time jobs, or just being the sounding board that others need - nothing is too big or too small if he can be of use to someone. Sometimes it strays into people pleasing tendencies, or even to the point of giving of himself without any regard to his own well-being, but Akira genuinely thrives on doing what he can to help others.

Pride: While Akira is a little too selfless for some of the negative qualities of Pride, it can certainly be said that he takes a great deal of joy in doing his job as a Phantom Thief well. In the Metaverse he's able to feel more capable than anywhere else, but there's a particular delight that can be found in uprooting the rotten adults that he encounters during his time in Tokyo. This extends to other areas of his life as well, such as his honors student status in school or working at his busy beef bowl job where he must man the restaurant alone - he learns his task diligently, and then is able to indulge in a celebratory gesture such as a fist pump when it's accomplished. Akira's pride is a quite one, but it still burns brightly.

Wrath: As with Pride, Akira doesn't indulge in the negative qualities of Wrath too often. But its positive ones could be said to be the root of how he Awakened his Persona in the first place. More than anything else, Akira cannot abide by those with power wielding it in a cruel or unjust way, and he'll do anything within his power to stop it... even if it might not always be the most morally correct way to go about it. His anger burned so hot in his heart that it awoke Arsène, who alluded to both the positive and negative traits of Akira's Wrath in a single statement: "Thou who art willing to perform all sacrilegious acts for thine own justice!" It's a justice that he's not afraid to carry out on his own either, given that law and authority figures have yet to do much that's positive for him in his life. He'll nearly always wield it for good... but even the possibility of a cruel person's death isn't enough to stop him from carrying out his own justice.

SUITABILITY: Though Akira is a high school student, Persona 5 Royal is a canon that deals with a lot of themes that are similar to the concepts of 7dead's vices and virtues, while still allowing him to be challenged in new and fresh ways. He's had the weight of many lives on his shoulders before, had to lead a team through mental landscapes that were sometimes disturbing or even frightening, and has gone through enough difficulties - from being forced into probation by the lies of a corrupt politician to having to stop a god from brainwashing all of humanity - that I feel he's well equipped to handle whatever the game can throw at him.

    POWERS:

Third Eye: An ability received from Igor, this allows Akira to scan the area around him for things that are out of place.

If possible, I'd like for Akira to have only one Persona for now and possibly regain others later. (if you'd rather he only has what he starts with, though, that's totally fine with me!) I'd like for him to at least have Raoul, one of the three Personas that are considered his true ones, and whose skills I'll list briefly below (with some descriptions adjusted for what feels more appropriate for rp terminology):
Phantom Show: High chance to inflict Sleep on all targets.
Eigaon: Heavy curse damage to one target.
Ali Dance: Reduces hit rate of all incoming attacks by half.
Maeigaon: Heavy curse damage to all targets.
Heat Riser: Increases the attack, defense and agility of one ally for a short time.
Curse Amp: Strengthens curse attacks by 50%.
Concentrate: Next magical attack inflicts 2.5x damage for Raoul.
Life Aid: Restores some health and spirit (or mental fortitude) after defeating a target.

    INVENTORY:
Silver Dagger: A silver blade resplendent in its ornamentation.
Tkachev: Model gun typically seen in mafia films.
Akechi's Glove: A challenge that was accepted.

PREFERENCE: My top preference is for Wrath & Patience. Otherwise aside from the one I'm opting out of, I'm more than happy to be assigned any of the other pairs! I think there's something fun in all of them for Akira to play around with.
OPT-OUTS: I would like to opt out of just Envy & Gratitude for Akira.

    [golden peacock] mating season (old)

    OPEN SEASON
    @personyaa
    17 / male / bisexual / 3♥︎
    Details

    Maybe it's you. ;3
