[There's a moment of silence then that seems to stretch on forever. Eren stares at Akira, young face only growing more baffled while the gears in his little head turn; then, all at once, his eyes grow wide, mouth falling open in dumb shock.

[His voice comes out so quiet it's hard to hear.]

There are people outside the walls?

[There's only the smallest flutter of hesitation - and then Akira is nodding.]

There are. Very far away from the walls, but... It's where we are, right now.

[His hand moves, so much easier than forcing half-lies out of his throat, squeezing Eren's shoulder gently. Comforting, hopefully.]

We don't have to go outside. But wherever you want to be, I won't let anything hurt you. I swear it.

[Eren stares at Akira in awe for only a moment or so longer before, all at once, his face crumples and he begins to cry.

[He doesn't even know why, really, but he begins to cry. He sinks down to the floor on his knees, rubs circles with his fists over his eyes, sobs, sobs, sobs.]
